QUICK TAKE
Freedom Flex is a no-annual-fee cash-back card whose strongest feature is its rotating quarterly 5% categories. It rewards category tracking and can serve as a source of Chase points when paired with an eligible premium Ultimate Rewards card.
ANNUAL FEE
$0.
REWARDS AND BENEFITS
Earn 5% cash back on up to $1,500 in combined purchases in each quarter’s rotating bonus categories after activation; 5% on travel purchased through Chase Travel; 3% on dining and drugstores; and 1% on other eligible purchases. Chase’s current product page lists no foreign transaction fee and notes that rewards do not expire while the account remains open. Benefits also include purchase protection and select trip protections subject to terms. If you hold an eligible premium Chase account, rewards may be combined and transferred under program rules.
WHO IT MAY SUIT
Consider it if you enjoy tracking category calendars, can activate each quarter, and spend in the featured categories. It pairs naturally with a flat-rate or travel card for purchases outside the current bonus categories.
TRADEOFFS
You must activate quarterly categories, and the 5% rate is limited to $1,500 in combined category purchases per quarter; after the cap, those purchases earn the base rate. The categories change and may not match your spending. Check merchant coding and exclusions. The invitations supplied may offer either Freedom product, so confirm exact card name and terms before applying.
