Andrew Penksaw

Andrew has always been around bikes even from a very early age. Short rides to the park and bike rallies with friends were common. His family’s garage has always been filled with bicycles.  Andrew started bicycling consistently in 2006, starting on a mountain bike riding 10 miles at a time. At first it was just to help with his health. In 2003 he had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and eventually used cycling as a tool to manage diabetes. About the same time he signed up for the Solvang Half Century and began to train more. In his first season he also completed the So Cal Tour de Cure, a 70 ride; the Salinas Classic Half Century and the Solvang Prelude(63 miles).  From there it grew from a few short rides a week to a lifestyle. He now rides up to six times a week often riding 200-250 miles a week during peak training.  He has successfully completed the Solvang Century sx times, one of the toughest centuries in the country.  In December 2008 Andrew joined Canyon Velo, one of Southern California's premiere cycling clubs, based in Yorba Linda, California. In 2011 he competed at his first USCF race: the Sea Otter Classic Road Race and placed 14 out of 60+; raced at the new Thursday night circuit training races at the OC Great Park, and raced a Time Trial in October. In 2012 he races for Cyles Veloce - Team Simple Green. He placed 9th in the 2012 Roger Milikan Criterium in February, and 2nd in the CBR #8 Criterium in August. He currently rides a sleek Cannondale CAAD10 bicycle, custom assembled with SRAM RED. Just as training and functioning equipment are essential to peak performance, so is proper nutrition. Healthy eating with fruits, vegetables and complex carbohydrates, as well as Juice Plus+, the capsule with 17 fruits and vegetables is key to strong cycling performance.
